(3/25) Crystal Woodfired Tumbler

$65.00
sold out

One of our signature forms. We designed this faceted tumbler to fit comfortably within the contours of the hand, and to capture dramatic fire and ash effects in the woodkiln. Perfect for cocktails, our Crystal Tumblers dress up any table.

Handmade and then handfired for over fifty hours in the wood kiln at Reitz Ranch in late October (2021).

Woodfiring is a very specialized and labor intensive form of ceramic firing in which wood is the only fuel used to heat the kiln. The kiln is stoked entirely by hand for the duration of the firing which can last up to a week and a half (day and night) reaching temperatures of ~2400 degrees Farenheit, (Cone 12).

The ceramic surfaces achieved through woodfiring are the combined effect of the flame and ash inside the kiln interacting with the clay. The shape and size of the kiln, how the pots are arranged inside the kiln, and how it is tended to during the firing all have a tremendous effect on the final results.

Each wood-fired piece is thus completely unique and functions as a record of its environment during the firing—a window into the kiln during that particular moment in time; both an artifact and a treasure.

4” H x 3” W / wood-ash glazed porcelain
